Latvian Gas: Monitoring and Supervision of Energy Distribution with AVEVA solution
The goal was to develop a management system for the gas distribution network at Latvian Gas’s distribution stations. This was achieved by implementing Data-Driven and Secure Operations with flexible data transmission - with help of the AVEVA System Platform.

System Objectives
To develop a remotely monitored system for supervising gas distribution stations and to integrate various sites and their equipment into a single remotely monitored and reporting system.
System Concept
All data from various actuators in the gas distribution network is transmitted to a central control room via the AVEVA System Platform. Additionally, several sites are equipped with other monitoring devices that send surveillance data to monitoring organizations. For data transmission verification and communication with individual actuators, the SMS-Control solution developed by Klinkmann is also used, which integrates with the AVEVA platform.
The general status of the distribution stations is displayed on a geographic map, where each site is represented by an icon. The color of the icon indicates the station’s status. Alerts are published through the complete AVEVA platform alarm system, where authorized operators manage events and alerts.
Messages received and operator actions are archived in databases and can be retrieved and displayed at any time. The AVEVA application has been developed to make it as easy as possible to add new stations.

Latvian Gas’s management and engineers at various levels gain a clear, centralized view of the distribution and metering network. This leads to reliable and fast measurement times and significantly reduced response times to various station events.
The collected data enables data-driven operations, including analytics and rapid action by the appropriate personnel. The AVEVA platform makes it easy to develop applications, and the unified platform is also suitable for future needs.
The AVEVA System Platform allows for fully remote network monitoring using standard secure communication channels with various operator services. This system provides not only commercial benefits but also significantly enhances safety in potentially unstable environments.
